Another way in which we try to help our international movers is by providing tips and overviews of the new places they’ll be moving to. Today we’re looking at Oslo, Norway.
Oslo The Capital Of Norway
The capital of Norway has long been an attraction for expats thanks to its natural beauty, economic opportunity, and diverse metropolitan culture. The country is a skiers paradise and it seems to be a genetically predisposed skill for the Norweigians. The winter months are just about what you’d expect for a Scandinavian country although the summers are breathtakingly gorgeous and its scenic countryside is perfect for the outdoors types.
Oslo’s relatively small size makes it a great pedestrian city. Getting from place to place on foot is often the easiest method of transportation. However, Oslo does have a terrific public transportation system; buses, subways, trams, and even ferries are great ways to traverse distances that may be too far on foot. The system is run by Ruter and you can find all the info you need on their site. But if walking and subways are your thing, there’s always driving yourself. Oslo isn’t high on the list of most congested cities.
Like most European countries, Norway offers a system of universal healthcare. Residents and workers in Norway have the right to be entered into the national health insurance scheme, which will be paid for through your taxes. However, you have the ability to opt for private healthcare, although, it is more expensive than the public option.
Take advantage of the outdoors! Situated between hills, fields, and fjords, Oslo offers much more than an urban environment. There’s even a law called allemannsrett that allows you to roam and camp anywhere in the countryside. And considering that just about everything in the city costs money, it’s a fantastic and inexpensive way to enjoy this gorgeous country.
